Janesville, WI June 11, 2004 -- The 10th Annual MDA Tub Run will begin in Janesville at noon on Saturday, June 19 and conclude that evening at Thresherman's Park in Edgerton. All money raised through pledges, raffles, and auctions will benefit MDA.
Motorcyclists registered for this year's Tub Run will travel a scenic route departing from Kutter Harley-Davidson in Janesville with a stop in Clinton before returning to take part in several activities including a silent auction, bike show, poker run, bike games, and camping. Participants are encouraged to raise money through pledges and top fundraisers are rewarded with prizes such as complimentary dinners, gift certificates, and clothing. The top fundraiser wins a leather jacket from Kutter Harley-Davidson. Last year, nearly 1,500 participants raised a net total of $104,000.
"It's great, the community comes out and holds signs; they show support for us," said Ilena Nipple, a Tub Run committee member. "Many communities shut down for us, but we still need people to volunteer in order to reach our goal this year: $120,000."
A committee of volunteers with the help of MDA staff plans the event. Dozens of other volunteers set up and run activities, raffles, bike registration, food stands, silent auction, and clean up after the event. The 10-year anniversary of the event continues a trend of increased numbers of donations and riders.
The MDA Tub Run is one of the top MDA fundraisers in the country, and it is also one of the largest motorcycle rides in which all the riders begin and end at the same time. It is sponsored by the South Central Wisconsin Janesville Harley Owners Group and Kutter Harley-Davidson. Additional key sponsors of the ride include: Arch Heating & Cooling, Inc., Blackhawk Credit Union, Bobble Heads Sports Bar & Grill, Charter Communications, The Village of Clinton/Clinton Chamber of Commerce, D.A.Y. Construction, Drag Specialties, Helgesen Development Group, Kadee's Kafe, Miller, Owl's Club, Renegade Classics, Rock Valley Plumbing, Studio FX, TAASBAG, and WKOW.
